The Flash animation shows the restructuring of proinsulin into insulin. Proinsulin is a prohormone and the precursor of the peptide hormone insulin. The proinsulin consists of the B chain, the C-peptide and the A-chain. If needed the C-peptide is seperated. Thus, the prohormone proinsulin is transformed into the active hormone insulin, which consists of two polypeptide chains that are linked together by two disulfide bonds. |
